Virginia García-Acosta is Social Anthropologist (BA and Masters) and historian (PhD). She has been General Director of CIESAS sinc 2004. She is the author of nearly 100 articles and 14 books. Her research relates to food history and to disaster and risk from a historical-anthropological perspective. She currently coordinates two projects: "Hurricanes in Mexican History; memory and Catalogue" sponsored by CONACYT (Science and Technology National Council, Mexico) and "Risk and Vulnerability Network: Social Strategies on Prevention and Adaptation" sponsored by CONACYT and the European Union.
